So if you haven’t guessed, what I’m talking about is the platform, TikTok. OK, now TikTok is kind of an interesting platform to me. You know, I think when I first when I first heard about TikTok, it was actually called musically. I believe how it happened was, you know, musically was a, you know, a social media app that began with people basically lip-synching to music that they liked. Right. So, you know, I’d be driving along or I’d be, you know, here at the house and I’d look and I’d see my daughter, you know, propping up her phone and then, you know, like mouthing stuff and doing all these weird dances and hand symbols.
The Evolution from Musically to TikTok
And, you know, I’d shake my head. And then finally I was like, all right, you know, like, what are we doing here? And she showed me and while I appreciated the fact that she was doing something she enjoyed to me, it was just kind of weird. You know, here’s a video of me lip-synching and, you know, just I don’t know, it just kind of struck me as odd. But it was it was pretty popular.
So it was doing its thing somewhere along the lines, though, you know, musically either somehow changed or evolved into what is now called TikTok. And if I’m wrong on that, that’s fine. But, you know, investigate for yourself, but musically somewhat, you know, switched over.
TikTok’s Viral Formula: Video and Audio Synergy
And the interesting part about it is, you know, whether it’s a new formulation of it or whatnot, you know, it went from being a here’s me lip-synching to something this morning at this.
You know, it when it went from people, you know, lip-synching to, you know, music. And it kind of changed into, you know, a video-sharing platform for everything. OK, so what happens is the reason why I believe it’s somewhat got much more via reality is not only because you can upload your own videos, OK, but you can actually also utilize sounds. OK, so with TikTok videos don’t only go viral, sounds can go viral as well.
TikTok’s Unique Appeal and Content Diversity
So if you get the right combination of a viral video with a viral sound now that really sets you up for success and views. Right. So to give you an idea of how it really works, if you hear a sound that you like, people will take audio clips of movies or of songs or just, you know, clips of audio from other people’s videos and they repurpose it in their videos.
So what ends up happening is if your video has that viral factor, it’ll get some traction there. But if the sound also has some viral traction, you can benefit from there as well. And a lot of people do some really, really funny stuff on TikTok, in my opinion. I watch. I do watch. TikTok. I now I kind of watch it somewhat regularly. There’s a lot of funny stuff. The feed put some really interesting things in front of you.
Navigating TikTok’s Landscape: From Comedy to Politics
You know, some of it’s not great. Of course, you know, it’s social media. So there’s some stuff where it’s kind of gross, kind of inappropriate. But then there’s also some stuff that’s, you know, beautiful and amazing stories of people, you know, with health issues, overcoming them. You know, I’ve been getting lots of funny animal videos lately, the algorithms feeding me, like, just silly things that animals do and funny animal videos.
But that combination of video, virality, and audio via reality, I think is what’s making this platform take off like wildfire. And then also the whole political aspect where, you know, it’s a Chinese-owned company. And, you know, supposedly Microsoft may be buying it out. And, you know, all of this stuff, you know, there’s lots of safety concerns over it. But all of that being said, you may be interested in utilizing TikTok or TikTok’s traffic to grow your business.

OK, now this isn’t a this isn’t that you need to spend X to get it. I actually already applied and I have a three hundred dollar credit in my account. OK, now there are steps to sign up, you have to sign up.
So I will put this link in the description of this video. But you do have to sign up and how you get the three hundred dollars by verifying your business. OK, so if you have safety concerns, if you know or if you don’t have an actual, you know, taxpayer ID number and all that stuff, like, then you can’t do it. But if you verify your business with TikTok, they’ll give you three hundred dollars of ad spend.

So I want to see let me see if I could show you kind of the back end because it’s actually it’s four for four. It is just kind of starting off. I was pretty impressed with their back end. So far.
OK, so let me see if it has my login info here.
OK, so this is that’s an interesting one, I say did it awesome, awesome. OK, so let’s take a look at the back end of TikTok here. And I started playing around with a couple of ads. I don’t have anything running, but I do have this credit in my account. OK, so this right here is the back and the dashboard of the TikTok ads manager. So you may notice. Oh, that’s weird. It’s saying I did spend something.
A Surprise Ad Campaign and Early Insights
Oh, what’s going on here? I spent some money and didn’t even realize it yet. Let’s say I spent two dollars on a second. Let me let me hop down into the ad group here, OK? I had no idea. Look at this. So I spent some money. This ad got approved and I didn’t realize it. So I got 100 clicks on an ad.
One hundred and one clicks on an ad and I spent 20 bucks.
OK, so it’s kind of funny because I didn’t realize it was even running, but it is because the first one didn’t get approved and I forgot to double-check. But anyway, I created some videos about my ads on the book course, which is a free course. So these are the three ads I have running. And you can see here that I spent seven dollars on this, four dollars on this ad. But wow. Now, you know, I have to check and see if anybody signed up for my free course.
Right. I’m trying to build my email list or whatnot, but I got three hundred dollars you can see here. You know, there’s there’s actually another opportunity as well. So I got three hundred dollars in my account. OK, so I’m not spending any of my money right now. I still have another, you know, another two hundred and eighty dollars or so to spend of TikTok’s money. Right. It doesn’t cost them anything. That’s the thing.
So that’s how they can do this. Oh, it’s too good to be true. It doesn’t cost them anything to give you real estate. It’s there so they can give you as much as they want. So that’s a great thing. So it’s almost like, you know, getting more bang for your buck.
Right. They’ll match your ad costs or something along those lines. But as you can see here, it’s pretty advanced. Now, they also have and let me pull it up here. And what I want to show you is that they’re pretty advanced because look, this here this little extension here is called the TikTok pixel helper. And guess what? I already have the TikTok pixel, OK, on this page.

So what does that mean? TikTok is actively gathering information on people who visit this page, no matter where it comes from, no matter where they come from. So I could actually advertise to these people. I can retarget people on TikTok just like I do on Facebook, just like I do on Google. So right out of the gate, it’s a pretty advanced, pretty advanced system, in my opinion. So I would recommend you guys sign up.

And then you have the sound like I was discussing before, the video may go viral, the sound may go viral, or both. OK, so that’s why as you see here, it says original sound. So let’s on mute.
OK, OK, so somebody uses this song and puts their video to it. Right, let’s find a bedroom.
Exploring TikTok’s Diverse Content Landscape
OK, so they use this funny, this funny sound and put this video on this to it. Weird stuff songs.
This is what I was talking about before, the weird lip-synching thing. They don’t know what’s going on. There are lots of weird stuff. Now, you may be saying, OK, but, you know, this weird platform isn’t for me. If you go into the ads manager, OK, just like in Facebook ads, just like in lots of other ad platforms, I don’t want to advertise to 12-year-olds. Right. So and that’s possible to not do so.
So I was playing around and you could put tags in and stuff like that, you know, as far as the category and whatnot. But when you look at targeting, look, I targeted the United States, I said male or female is fine and age. I only wanted to target twenty-five to about fifty-four, OK. And I probably had fifty-four, fifty-five plus, you know, I was playing around, I didn’t even know I was going to run so but I put instant financial services right because I was like, all right, well there wasn’t a ton of options as far as interests.
Tapping into TikTok’s Targeting Capabilities
But anybody who may be interested in financial services, you know, maybe fiscally minded, may be interested in making money, running Facebook ads, or if they’re interested in financial services, maybe they have money and they’re you know, they’re looking for four good ways to manage it. So where did they get that money? Maybe they’re a business owner. Maybe they’re just financially successful and maybe are you know, they know business owners, stuff like that. So my what in my interest, I chose there was just, you know, playing around literally.
So I’m glad I hopped in and saw that I was running ads. But, you know, so I would play around with the interests quite a bit more. You can also, like, select the device if you only want to do, you know, on iPhones, because you’re trying to push an iPhone app, then obviously you would select just advertise on iPhones. You could actually specify. I want people who are only on wi fi. Maybe my video was my video ad, you know, takes a lot of, you know, has a lot of resources that it needs.
So it’s best if they’re on wi fi or they have to be on 4G at least, so that they know the ad is going to perform well. Lots of interesting stuff you can set here. OK, you know. Fifty cents per click, lots of options. You can even put third-party tracking codes in here so that you can make sure, you know, for every ad, you know, specifically in your reporting and Google Analytics or whatever.
So very, very cool in my opinion.
So, you know, I think as a business owner, you always got to be, you know, you know, nimble and agile and on the cutting edge.
